Don't get Discouraged

I had been feeling rather discouraged.  Nothing seemed to be working or going right and everything that could go wrong seemed to go wrong and there was no clear path ahead that anything would go right again in the near future.  I felt paralyzed. So I did a little research on the topic.  In the old Testament it speaks of not being afraid or discouraged you will not suffer disgrace or shame.  I was given the insight that perhaps my discouragement was more based on my own perception of myself and what I thought I should be able to do instead of focusing on God's Will in all things.  Ashamed of "bearing bad fruit" I'd become discouraged.

Do not fear, for you will not be ashamed; do not be discouraged, for you will not suffer disgrace; for you will forget the shame of your youth, and the disgrace of your widowhood you will remember no more.

Isaiah 54:4

Jesus tells St Faustina how anxiety and discouragement are the greatest obstacle to holiness and are the result of self-love rather than loving God wholly and trusting in him.

JesusMy child, know that the greatest obstacles to holiness are discouragement and an exaggerated anxiety. These will deprive you of the ability to practice virtue. All temptations united together ought not disturb your interior peace, not even momentarily. Sensitiveness and discouragement are the fruits of self-love. You should not become discouraged, but strive to make My love reign in place of your self-love. Have confidence, My child. Do not lose heart in coming for pardon, for I am always ready to forgive you. As often as you beg for it, you glorify My mercy.
Divine Mercy in my Soul, n.1488

Jesus describes discouragement as an infection which invades the whole person destroying it's beauty and withering them.  The remedy comes from watering the soul with the contrary humor, confidence. Discouragement is so dangerous because it disguises itself as a type of companion that sympathizes and comforts the soul all the way to death.

He told me:  “Discouragement is an infectious humor, which infects the most beautiful flowers and the most pleasant fruits, and penetrates down to the bottom of the root, in such a way that, by invading the whole tree, that infectious humor renders it withered and squalid.  And if one does not remedy it by watering it with a contrary humor, since the bad humor has infiltrated deep into the root, it will make the root wither and the tree fall to the ground.  So it happens to the soul who becomes soaked with this infectious humor of discouragement.”
In spite of all this, I still felt discouraged, all huddled within myself, and I saw myself as so bad that I did not dare to fling myself toward my sweet Jesus.  My mind was occupied with the thought that it was useless for me to hope for His continuous visits as before, for His graces, for His charisms – everything was over for me.  And He, almost scolding me, added:  “What are you doing?  What are you doing?  Don’t you know that lack of confidence renders the soul moribund?  Thinking that she has to die, she no longer thinks of anything - neither of gaining anything, nor of making it circulate, nor of embellishing herself more, nor of remedying her sicknesses - she thinks of nothing else but that everything is over for her.”
Ah, Lord, I imagine seeing this specter of the lack of confidence - squalid, emaciated, fearful and all trembling; and all of his mastery, with no other ingenuity but fear alone, leads souls to the tomb.  But what is more, this specter does not show himself as an enemy so that the soul may sneer at his fear, but he shows himself as a friend, and infiltrates so sweetly into the soul, that if the soul is not attentive, seeing him as a faithful friend who agonizes with her and even dies together with her, she will hardly be able to free herself from his artificious mastery.
Vol. 3, February 4, 1900

Jesus reaffirms that discouragement kills the soul and even calls it a vice, killing more souls than all the other vices.  The countermeasure to discouragement is courage which has the power to revive the soul renewing hope and thereby undoing herself and redoing herself in God.

He told me:  “My daughter, don’t you know that discouragement kills souls more than all other vices?  Therefore, courage, courage, because just as discouragement kills, courage revives, and is the most praiseworthy act that the soul can do, because while feeling discouraged, from that very discouragement she plucks up courage, undoes herself and hopes; and by undoing herself, she already finds herself redone in God.”
Vol. 6, September 8, 1904

But how does one gain courage/confidence?  Humility is the key.  Only true Humility produces confidence.  If there is no confidence accompanying it then it is false.  True Humility must be invested with the spirit of Faith otherwise it is not true and will do harm instead causing one to become discouraged and paralyzed.  Knowledge of oneself is only good when balanced with knowledge of God so that in knowing the first, one will lean on God for all things.

Finally, Jesus showed Himself a little more clearly, and in seeing me so annihilated, He told me:  “If you knew how much I like humility… Humility is the littlest plant that can be found, but its branches are so high as to reach Heaven, wind their way around my throne, and penetrate deep into my Heart.  This little plant is humility, and the branches which this plant produces, are confidence; so, there cannot be true humility without confidence.  Humility without confidence is false virtue.”  From the words of Jesus it shows that my heart was not only annihilated, but also a little discouraged.
Vol, 2, April 3, 1899

My good Jesus, always benign with this miserable sinner, came and told me:  “Contempt of yourself is praiseworthy when it is well invested with the spirit of Faith; but when it is not invested with the spirit of Faith, instead of doing you good, it can harm you.  In fact, in seeing yourself as you are, unable to do anything good, you will be discouraged, disheartened, without daring to take one step on the path of good.  But by leaning on Me – that is, by investing yourself with the spirit of Faith – you will come to know and despise yourself, and at the same time, to know Me, confident of being able to do anything with my help.  And here is how, by acting in this way, you will walk according to the truth.”
How much good these words of Jesus have done to my soul!  I understood that I must enter into my nothingness and know who I am, but I must not stop there.  Rather, immediately after I have known myself, I must fly into the immense sea of God, and stop there, to draw all the graces that my soul needs; otherwise, nature becomes weary and the devil will look for means in order to cast it into discouragement.  May the Lord be always blessed, and may everything be for His glory.
Vol. 2, May 26, 1899

Faith also produces fortitude which allows one to remain strong in sufferings keeping one united with God.

This morning I was feeling all discouraged and embittered because of the loss of my adorable Jesus; and while I was in this state, He let His most sweet voice be heard, saying to me:  “My daughter, all things take origin from Faith.  One who is strong in Faith is strong in suffering; Faith makes one find God in every place, it makes one see Him in every action, touch Him in every movement, and every new occasion that presents itself is a new divine revelation that one receives.  Therefore, remain strong in Faith, for if you are strong in it, in all states and circumstances, Faith will administer fortitude to you, and will make you be always united with God.”
Vol. 6, March 20, 1904

And Hope keeps one at peace throughout all things.  With obsessing over imagined difficulties and misfortune one can actually bring about that reality.

“My daughter, do not be disturbed – Hope is peace.  And just as I, in the very act in which I make justice, remain in the most perfect peace, you too, by immersing yourself in Hope, must remain at peace.  The soul who is at peace, by wanting to afflict herself, become disturbed or lose trust, would run into the misfortune of one who, though possessing millions upon millions of coins, and even being queen of various kingdoms, keeps fantasizing and lamenting, saying:  ‘What shall I live on?  How shall I clothe myself?  Ah, I am dying of starvation!  I am so unhappy!  I will be reduced to the meagerest misery and I will end up dying.’  And while she says this, she cries, sighs and spends her days in sadness and squalor, immersed in the greatest melancholy.  But this is not all; the worst thing about her is that if she sees her treasures, if she walks within her properties, instead of rejoicing, she afflicts herself more, thinking of her nearing end; and if she sees food, she does not want to touch it to sustain herself.  And if anyone tries to persuade her by letting her touch her riches with her own hands, showing her that it cannot be that she will be reduced to the meagerest misery, she is not convinced, she remains dazed, and cries even more over her sad lot.  Now, what would people say about her?  That she is crazy, that it shows that she has no reason, that she has lost her brain.  The reason is clear, it cannot be otherwise.

Yet, it can happen that she may run into the misfortune over which she keeps fantasizing.  But in what way?  By going out of her kingdoms, abandoning all of her riches, and going into foreign lands in the midst of barbarian people, where no one will deign to give her a crumb of bread.  Here is how the fantasy has become reality – what used to be false, is now true.  But who has been the cause of it?  Who should be blamed for a change of state so sad?  Her perfidious and obstinate will.  Such is precisely the soul who is in possession of Hope:  her wanting to become disturbed or discouraged is already the greatest madness.”

Vol. 2, October 14, 1899

So to avoid the pitfall of discouragement Faith and Hope are required.  Now these 2 can never be far from Charity, the three theological virtues, veiling of the Trinity.

“Faith and Hope give way to Charity, and Charity connects all the rest of the other two together, in such a way as to make them one, while they are three.  And here It is, oh my spouse, veiled in the three theological virtues, the Trinity of the Divine Persons.”
“If Faith makes one believe, and Hope makes one hope, Charity makes one love.  If Faith is light and serves as the sight of the soul, and Hope, which is the nourishment of Faith, provides the souls with courage, peace, perseverance and all the rest - Charity, which is the substance of this light and of this nourishment, is like that most sweet and fragrant ointment which, penetrating everywhere, relieves and soothes the pains of life.  Charity makes suffering sweet, and makes one reach the point even of desiring it.  The soul who possesses Charity diffuses fragrance everywhere; her works, all done out of love, give off a most pleasing odor.  And what is this odor?  It is the odor of God Himself.  The other virtues render the soul solitary and almost unrefined with creatures; Charity, on the other hand, being substance that unites, unites the hearts.  But where?  In God.  Being a most fragrant ointment, Charity spreads everywhere and with everyone.  Charity makes one suffer the most ruthless torments with joy, and one reaches the point of not being able to be without suffering.  And when she sees herself deprived of it, she says to her spouse Jesus:  “Sustain me with the fruits, which is suffering, because I am languishing with love; and where else can I show You my love other than in suffering for You?”  Charity burns, consumes all other things, even the virtues themselves, and turns them all into itself.  In sum, it is like a queen who wants to reign everywhere, and does not want to surrender to anyone.”
Vol. 1, Jesus prepares Luisa for the renewal in heaven of the Mystical Marriage, with the approval of the Blessed Trinity; so he speaks to her of the three theological virtues.

So discouragement is the natural state of the soul that attempts to work by itself and it ends in first the immobilization of the soul and then it's death.  The soul can only climb out of this by focusing on God and being imbued with the three Cardinal Virtues of Faith, Hope and Love.  These fortify, pacify and sweeten the soul allowing it to continue it's course regardless of it's circumstances.  Because now instead of focusing on it's path it now focuses on God.

In conclusion Luisa wrote several letters where she would encourage people.  Here they are in review to continue their work and encourage us too.

In Luisa's letters she consoled the General Superior Fathers and the Daughters of the Divine Zeal over the loss of M. Gesuina.

Therefore, all we can do is to say "Deo gratias" for the fortunate M. Gesuina, and "Fiat" for ourselves who have lost her, and this "Fiat" will remedy everything. So, let us not get discouraged by sorrow and losses; they are always bearers of graces, light, and most surprising aids. We have an omnipotent Will with us; therefore there is nothing to fear. This Divine Volition will change hearts in order to form the ones who are needed. Blessed Jesus and our Celestial Mama will be together with you, to guide you and dispose all things according to their adorable Will.
1. To the General Superiors of the Rogationist Fathers and of the Daughters of the Divine Zeal.
February 24, 1932

Look at what a beautiful gift the operating Divine Will is sending you, as It wants to make of you a saint. Do not get discouraged; these are works that It wants to do, and when It is determined to do them, It won’t listen to reason: if It does not finish Its work, It is not content.
Therefore, my daughter, be at peace, rest in Its arms like a little baby. I repeat the greetings of the "Fiat".
5. J.M.J.

Send everything - pains, bitterness, strains - into the Divine Will; tell Him from the heart that you want nothing but His Will, and look at all things as bearers of a Will so holy, and you will see that the Fiat will defend you. Don’t get discouraged, do not fear, do not lose peace, abandon yourself more than ever in the arms of the Divine Will, and be tranquil, waiting in full confidence for the helps and means which are necessary to you.

My good daughter, how bad did your words sound to me, "I am afraid to be lost"! Don’t you know that sufferings are the certainty, the seal, of our salvation? Sufferings form the carriage which brings us to Heaven, and the more the sufferings, the faster it will go. So, each additional pain is a faster ride which takes us soon and straight to Heaven.
Therefore, courage, courage. All other things are left; while sufferings are brought to Heaven, and form our most beautiful throne and never ending glory.
Corato, January 5, 1935
18. To Mrs. Costanza Benedetta Pettinelli from Siena

My good daughter in the Divine Volition,
Let us thank from the heart the Lord and the Celestial Queen for having consoled you. This is why we should never get discouraged or lose peace, when we are not answered immediately. When there is prayer, the hour of the Lord will come and He will give us more than we ask for. Our part must be to remain always in our place, to always do the Divine Will, because this is the greatest of miracles, and Our Lord will provide and take care of everything; more than that we ourselves would not do. If we always do the Divine Will, our names will be written in Heaven and our salvation, our sanctity, will be secured. Jesus will be all ours; and what will He not give to us? Everything. Therefore, think about making yourself a saint, and the rest will come by itself.

31. J.M.J.

My good daughter,
I received your letter and with sorrow I learned of the state of your health. Patience, my daughter, dear Jesus wants to make you mature more in sanctity, and His Divine Volition wants to hasten Its life in your soul. Crosses are firewood: the more the wood, the more the fire grows; or like the sun to the plants, which caresses the plants with its light and heat, matures them, and gives them sweetness and taste. Without a cross we are like unripened fruits - like sterile plants, which do more harm than good. However, my daugther, remove the sadness from your soul; do not get discouraged or disturbed; hold peace as the greatest treasure. Jesus is good, He won’t harm you, but will dispose everything for your good.
39. To Sister Remigia

My good daughter in Jesus Christ,
Do not get discouraged, never lose trust. What I recommend is that you look at your crosses as many visits from Jesus, Who brings you the life of the Divine Will, to make It reign in you and to give you all His love as food; to make you grow in His likeness within His arms, and to make of you such a rare beauty as to enrapture even Himself. If you do the Will of God, you will feel a strength in all your sufferings; you will feel an invisible hand which helps you, guides you, and does whatever you do within you. In fact, when one does the Will of God, the work is more of God than ours. Therefore, I wouldn’t know what else to say: do the Divine Will - live in It, and you can be sure that you will make yourself a saint. You will feel the bond and the association with the Divine Family. What is Theirs will be yours. So, banish fear and fright, and all the most painful circumstances will bring you the kiss, the strength – the life of the Divine Will, embalmed by Its love and joy.
85. To Mrs. Mazari, from Bari

My good daughter in the Divine Volition,
I recommend that you do not lose peace, and that you live so abandoned in the Divine Will as to feel It as your own life. If you do so, this Will so holy will take you upon Its maternal knees, more than a tender mother; It will hold you tightly to Its Divine Heart; It will raise you as Its beloved daughter. So, in all your pains, you will feel your Mama near you, assisting you, guiding you and changing your little pains into a Sun and into little coins for Heaven. In each pain, dear Jesus will give you a kiss, a hug, and will adorn your soul with most refulgent gems. Therefore, courage, my daughter; never lose heart; never get discouraged. It is Jesus that wants His daughter similar to Himself; aren’t you happy? So, do not care about anything else but to live abandoned in His arms. With this you will feel a new strength, and you will no longer feel alone; sufferings will turn for you into sanctity and into celestial joys. Dear Jesus will give you His pains as courtship, strength and company.
108. To Teresa

And when we need to we can unite ourselves in Jesus' Hours of the Passion where he specifically makes reparation for discouraged souls and obtains the antidote for them.

At your dignified words everyone trembles.  But, oh, what wickedness!  Wanting to honor Annas, a servant with an ironclad hand comes up to you and slaps you so hard that you stagger, and your most holy face turns livid.

My gentle life, now I understand why you woke me.  You were right.  Who was going to hold you up in this moment when you were about to fall?

Your enemies burst out in satanic laughter, in hisses and clapping, applauding such an unjust act.  Meanwhile, you stagger, having no one to lean on.

My Jesus, I embrace you.  I even want to form a wall with my being [for you to lean on].  And I courageously offer you my cheek, ready to support any pain for your love.  I sympathize with you for this outrage; and together with you I make reparation for the timidity of so many souls that easily become discouraged, for those that out of fear do not tell the truth, for the lack of respect due to priests, and for murmurings.
The Hours of the Passion, From 2 A.M. to 3 A.M.  Jesus Is Presented to Annas

Nothing escapes your gaze.  You forgive everyone and say good-by to all.  Then, gathering all your strength, with a powerful and resonant voice you cry:

"Father, into your hands I commend my spirit!"

And bowing your head, you die....
...
My dead Jesus, with this cry you put all of us as well into the hands of the Father so that he won't reject us.  So, you not only cry out with your voice, but with all your pains and with the voices of your blood as well:

"Father, into your hands I place my spirit and all souls."

My Jesus, I too abandon myself in you.  Give me the grace to die completely, in your love and in your Will.  I pray you never to permit me, neither in life nor in death, to go out of your Most Holy Will.

Meanwhile, I intend to make reparation for all those who do not abandon themselves perfectly to your Most Holy Will, thus losing or diminishing the precious fruit of your redemption.  What sorrow your heart feels, O my Jesus, to see so many creatures escape from your arms and become discouraged!  Have pity on everyone, O my Jesus!  Have pity on me!

Keep it Simple, Act Divine

I've often encountered people who seem to believe that the more complicated the prayer or the more lofty the round the more efficient it is and the closer to the Divine.  But God is simple and all his acts are simple.  Of course he's beyond our grasp in our created intellect, that will always be the case, but making a prayer more wordy doesn't make it more similar or pleasing to God.  A good example of this is in Mary's act that she did in meeting Jesus on the Way of  the Cross.

Continuing in my usual state, for a few instants I saw blessed Jesus with the Cross on His shoulders, in the act of encountering His Most Holy Mother; and I said to Him:  ‘Lord, what did your Mother do in this most sorrowful encounter?’

And He:  “My daughter, She did nothing but a most profound and simple act of adoration.  And since the simpler the act, the more easily it unites with God, Most Simple Spirit, in this act She infused Herself in Me and continued what I Myself was doing in my interior.  This was immensely pleasing to Me, more than if She had done any other greater thing.  In fact, the true spirit of adoration consists in this:  the creature dissolves herself and finds herself in the divine sphere; she adores all that God does, and she unites with Him.  Do you think that when the mouth adores but the mind is somewhere else, it is true adoration?  That is, the mind adores but the will is far away from Me?  Or, one power adores Me, and the others are all disordered?  No, I want everything for Myself, and everything I have given her, in Me.  This is the greatest act of cult, of adoration, that the creature can do for Me.”
Vol. 6, December 17, 1903

By ourselves this uniting with the divine sphere and having all of our powers ordered and focused on loving God alone is impossible.  The human will is disorder on it's own.  But when one lives in the Divine Will God's Will reorders man and restores the harmony of his powers and temperament.  With this the creature becomes more child-like, more similar to God.

“One who lives in my Will loses her temperament and acquires mine.  So, in the soul who lives in my Will one finds a pleasant, attractive, penetrating, dignified temperament, and simple at the same time – of a child-like simplicity; in sum, she looks like Me in everything.  Even more, she keeps her temperament within her power as she wants and as is needed.  Since she lives in my Will, she takes part in my power, so she has all things, and herself, at her disposal, and according to the circumstances and the people she deals with, she takes my temperament and applies it.”
Vol. 11, February 24, 1912

This gift of living in the Divine Will can only be accomplished by God.  Each creature that wants to live in His Will receives for himself a bilocated life of God because only the constant reigning presence of God can keep his creature in the divine harmony.  Only God can do this and for Him it is most simple and the one love fuses with the other and becomes one.

Now listen to me my good daughter, the great prodigy of our life in the creature, that no one else for love and power that has (existed) can give the boast of saying:  ‘I can bilocate myself, and while I remain that which I am, I can form another life of mine inside of a person that I love;’ it would be madness and absurd to say it, neither Angel, nor saint hold this power, only your God, your Jesus, holds this power, because our Being is fullness, he is totality, he is everything and fills everything, and in the immensity in which he finds himself, that involves everything, he breathes, and with a simple breath we form our Divine life in the creature, and our Will dominates her, feeds her, makes her grow, and forms the great prodigy of enclosing our Divine life in the little circle of the soul of the creature.  Behold therefore your continuous ‘I love you’ is ours, it is the breath of our life, it is our heartbeat that doesn’t know how to palpate other than ‘I love you, I love you, I love you’, this serves to the maintenance of our life, that doesn’t know how to do other than love, to give love and to want love, hence while this ‘I love you’ is ours, it is our breath and also yours, that while we give you love, you give us love, and fused together ours is woven with your ‘I love you’, it meets itself, unites itself and feels itself one single ‘I love you’, while they are two, that enrapturing each other they form one alone.
Vol. 32, April 2, 1933

Luisa, herself, doubted that so much good could occur so simply.  Jesus reassured her adding that not only is it simple but that all the good acts that the creature had to do have already been formed in the Divine Will.  They have existed, exist and will exist awaiting their birth into the light.

Jesus became silent, and I thought to myself:  “How can it be that with only entering into the Divine Will our acts acquire so much good?”  And Jesus resuming his saying added:
“My daughter, this happens in (a) simple and almost natural way, because our divine being is the most simple, thus our acts pure.  Now you must know that all that which the creature had to do of good has been done, formed, fed by our Divine Volition; one can say that her acts existed, exist, will exist, in him; they are as orderly lined up and all hold their place in our Volition; more so that first it becomes formed in us and then in its time we bring it forth to the light.
“Now, with entering into our Volition, the soul finds all that which is already hers and that we want that she takes, hence the human acts find our divine acts established by us for her, they fling themselves, transform themselves, kiss each other, enclose themselves in our divine acts, that are already theirs, and the human one becomes divine act; and since our divine act is great, is immense, and the human one is little, it feels scattered in the divine one, as if it might lose (its) life; but it is not true, the little life exists, the human reason is lost, is closed, has become occupied by ours, with its highest honor and with our highest glory, because we have given of ours to the creature.  And playing the little atom of the human volition, we make such prodigies of love, of our glory, as to astound heaven and earth and feel ourselves as reciprocated that we have created the creature with all the creation.
Vol. 36, November 6, 1938

These acts held in and done in the Divine Will encompass everything and everyone and all can receive their good from them.  All because they are simple.  They are perfect echos of God's own Fiat echoing love, glory and adoration.  They echo out to touch all, involve all, and bring God's order and healing to all.  And the soul that lives in the Divine Will becomes simple, echoing love, glory and adoration in all of their acts.

Then He added:  “The acts in my Will are the simplest acts, but, because they are simple, they communicate themselves to all.  The light of the sun, because it is simple, is light of every eye – yet the sun is one.  One act alone in my Will, like most simple light, diffuses itself in every heart, in every work, in everyone – yet the act is one.  My very Being, because It is most simple, is one single act, but an act which contains everything; it has no feet but is the step of all; no eyes, but is the eye and the light of all; it gives life to everything, but with no effort, with no toil, yet it gives the act of operating to all.  So, the soul in my Will becomes simple, and together with Me she multiplies in all, and does good to all.  Oh! if all comprehended the immense value of the acts, even the littlest, done in my Will – they would let not one act escape them.”
Vol. 11, September 8, 1916

“My blessed daughter of my Volition, have you seen how sweet was the murmur of the sea of my Will? and the souls that live in him also don’t do other than to murmur together in this sea, they, perfect echoes of my Fiat, don’t ever cease murmuring love, glory, adoration, but in a simple way, if they breathe they murmur love, if they palpate, if blood circulates in the veins, if they think, if they move, in everything they murmur love, love, glory to our Creator, and if they call my Will in their acts they form the impetuous waves in order to involve God and creatures, so that all Heaven and earth make one Will alone.  An act in my Will can be an impetuous wind as to transport, to eradicate with its strength the passions, the weaknesses, the bad habits, the putrefied air of sin and to substitute the virtues, the Divine strength, the holy habits, the sanctifying air of my Will.
“An act in my Volition can be a universal air that penetrating everywhere and in everyone, at night and in the daytime, it can make itself breathed in order to infuse its life, its sanctity and taking away the unhealthy air of the human volition, there it substitutes the healthy air of my Fiat in a way as to remain sweetened, embalmed, revived, healed by this Divine air.
Vol.34, July 25, 1937

But how can we enter into his Divine Will to bring these acts into the light for everyone.  Jesus continues to repeat how simple it is and how His Will facilitates everything.  He only needs the creature to truly want it and to correspond step by step.

“My good daughter, in order to enter into my Will the way is most simple, because your Jesus never teaches difficult things, my love, makes me adapt myself much to the human ability, so that the creature without difficulty, can do that which I teach and want.
“Now you must know that in order to enter into my Fiat the first indispensable thing is volition, to yearn for with all firmness that she wants to live in him.  The second thing, to take the first step, indeed first my Divine Will surrounds her with light and with such attractions, that the creature loses the desire to do her will, because as soon as she has taken a step she feels herself dominator(;) the night of the passions, of weaknesses, of miseries, is changed into daylight, into divine strength, hence she feels the extreme need to take the second step, which calls the third step, the fourth, the fifth, and so on and so forth.  These steps, are steps of light, which embellish her, sanctify her, felicitate her, direct the way to her, and participate her (in) her Creator’s likeness but so much so, that she not only feels the extreme need to live in my Volition, but she feels it as proper/(her own) life, that can not separate itself.
Vol. 36, May 6, 1938

Jesus is not asking great things of us.  He knows our littleness.  All the greatness comes from the purity of His Will.  We are called to to receive his act, embrace it by loving it and coming to understand it.  This is how we return to him the honor which is his due and Luisa is the forerunner and guide in this paving the way for all who would follow.

And Jesus: “Little daughter of mine, do not fear, your Jesus will let you drink this light in sips, so that you may receive it and comprehend it. Do you know what this light means? It is the light of my Will; it is that Divine Will rejected by other creatures which, wanting to come to reign upon earth, wants to find someone who would receive It, comprehend It, and love It. In order to come and reign, It wants to find a little soul who would offer herself to receive all those acts which the Supreme Will had destined for each creature, to make them happy and holy, and to give them the goods It contains. Now, this happiness, sanctity and goods which the Eternal Will issued in order to communicate them to the creature, as It issued the whole Creation, are out and suspended; and if It does not find one who would receive them so as to give It all the homages, honors and corteges that the other creatures have not given to It, It cannot come to reign upon earth. Therefore, your task is to embrace all generations in order to receive all the acts of the Supreme Will that they rejected, together with all the goods It contains. If you do not do so, my Eternal Will cannot put Itself in feast to come and reign;
Vol. 16, Nov. 15, 1923

Simplicity is even a way in which to recognize God's truth.  By their essence truths are simple as He is.  It is this simplicity which allows it to reach all.  Simplicity is like light and air that can reach and touch everyone inside and out.

“However, know that simplicity enters into all truths as the first nourishment.  If the truths were not simple, they would not be light, and they could not penetrate into human minds to enlighten them; and where there is no light, objects cannot be distinguished.  Simplicity is not only light, but it is like the air that one breathes which, though it cannot be seen, gives respiration to all; and if it wasn’t for the air, the earth and everyone would remain without motion.  Therefore, if the virtues, the truths, do not carry the mark of simplicity, they will be without light and without air.”
Vol. 13, November 19, 1921

With this air Jesus affirms that His Kingdom will come and it will come in the most simple yet the most powerful of ways.  Just as He breathed life into man, he will re-breath into him renewing the life he placed there, burning away all the evils of man's rebellious will.

“My good daughter, it is decreed in the Consistory of the Most Holy Trinity that my Divine Will will have his Kingdom upon the earth; and how many prodigies there are needed, we will do them; we will not spare anything, in order to have that which we want.  But we, in the work, always use the simplest, but powerful ways, to overwhelm heavens and earth, (and) all creatures, in the act that we want.

“You must know that in the creation, in order to infuse life into man, not was needed from us but our omnipotent breath; but how many prodigies in that breath!  We created the soul, endowing her with the three powers, true image of our adorable Trinity.  With the soul she had the heartbeat, the breath, the circulation of blood, the motion, the heat, the word, the sight.  What thing was needed from us in order to make all these prodigies in man?  Our simplest act, armed with our power, that is our breath, and from the race of our love, that not being able to contain it, it raced, raced toward him, even to make of him the greatest prodigy of all the creative work.
“Now, my daughter, with man not living in our Divine Volition, his three powers have been obscured, and our adorable image deformed in him, in a way that he has lost the first heartbeat of love of God in his divine breath in his human breath; that is, not that he has lost it: he does not sense it, hence he does not feel the circulation of divine life, the motion of good, the heat of supreme love, the word of God in his, the sight to be able to look at his Creator.  All has remained obscured, weakened and perhaps even deformed.
“Now, what thing is needed from us in order to renew this man?  We will return again to breathe in him with more strength and growing love.  We will breathe into the depths of his soul, we will breathe forth more strongly into the center of his rebellious will, but so very strongly as to shake off from him the evils by which he is bound; his passions will remain knocked down and petrified before the power of our breath, they will themselves burn from our divine fire, and the human will will feel the palpitating life of his Creator, by which he, as veiled, will hide in him, and he will return to be the bearer of his Creator.
“Oh, how happy he will feel!  With our breath we will renew him, we will restore him to health; we will do as a most tender mother that, having her child crippled, she pours herself upon him by way of breath, by breathing forth, by puff of breath, and then she allows him to breathe forth when he has been restored to health and made beautiful as she wanted him.  The power of our breath will not leave him; then we will cease blowing (in) him when we will see him returning into our fatherly arms, (as) beautiful as we want him, and then we will feel that the child has recognized our paternal goodness, that we love him so much.
"You see therefore what is needed from us in order to make our Will come to reign upon the earth; the power of our omnipotent breath.  With it we will renew our life in him.  All the truths that I have manifested, the great prodigies of living in my Volition, will be the most beautiful properties, most great, of which I will make a gift to him.  Even this is a certain sign that his Kingdom will come upon the earth, because if I speak, first I do the deeds and then I speak; my word is the confirmation of the gift, of the prodigies that I want to do.  Hence, to what gain is it to expose my divine properties, make them known, if his Kingdom should not come upon the earth?”
Vol.35, December 21, 1937

God always makes the first move and does the vast majority of the work.  His speaking is the confirmation that all is done and ready to be revealed and brought forth to the light.  Early in the Volumes Jesus revealed to Luisa the essence fo the Trinity in the form of a baby.  He told her that by his essence He is most pure, simple, communicative love,  He, by nature, produces images fully similar to himself.  We have only to trust in Him, want that which he wants to give us and follow Him like a simple little child step by step.

This morning, as I was outside of myself, I found myself with Baby Jesus in my arms; and while I delighted in looking at Him, I don’t know how, from the same Baby a second came out, and after a few instants, a third Baby, both of Them similar to the first, though distinct among Themselves.  Stupefied in looking at this, I said:  “Oh, how one can touch with hand the sacrosanct mystery of the Most Holy Trinity, that while You are One, You are also Three.’  It seemed to me that all Three of Them spoke to me, but as the word came out, it became one single voice:  “Our nature is formed of most pure, most simple, communicative Love, and the nature of true Love has this of its own:  it produces from itself images fully similar to itself in power, in goodness, in beauty and in everything it contains; and only to give more sublime prominence to Our Omnipotence it places the mark of distinction, in such a way that, melting in love, this nature of Ours - which is simple, with no matter at all which might prevent Our union - forms Three [Persons]; and returning to melt, it forms One.  It is so true that the nature of true Love has this prerogative of producing images fully similar to itself, or of assuming the image of the beloved, that the Second Person, in redeeming mankind, assumed the nature and the image of man, and communicated the Divinity to man.”
While They were saying this, I could distinguish my beloved Jesus very well, recognizing the image of the human nature in Him, and only because of Him I had the confidence to remain in Their presence; otherwise, who would have dared?  Ah, yes! It seemed to me that the humanity assumed by Jesus had opened commerce for the creature, so as to let her ascend up to the throne of the Divinity to be admitted to converse with Them, and to obtain deeds of graces.

Kindness and truth shall meet;
justice and peace shall kiss.
Truth shall spring out of the earth,
and justice shall look down from heaven.
Psalm 85:10-11

This Psalm always strikes me deeply when I come across it.  It's the promise of the fulfillment of the Kingdom.  It's the promise of true justice and true peace.  It's the promise of the reconciliation between heaven and earth and their union.  It's full promise has yet to be revealed and fulfilled.

It seems truth, on earth, is more often hard and cold.  Justice is often severe and oppressive or it is not just at all.  The earth seems to breed lies and deception and we all wait for the next "shoe to drop" from Heaven on us.  Jesus tells us that we ourselves close the door on Heaven.  That pride blinds us making us unable to see the truth.

In these sad times their pride is so great that they have poisoned all the air; and the stench that spreads everywhere is such that it has reached even before my throne in Heaven.  They act in such a way as to close Heaven by themselves.  The miserable ones do not have eyes to know the truth, because they are obfuscated by the sin of pride, followed by the other vices which they bring with themselves.

Vol. 1, The victim begins to perform her office, taking part in the pains of Jesus crowned with thorns, to make reparation for sins, especially pride.  Fasting begins for Luisa.

In opposition to pride which blinds us, only simplicity and humility draws Jesus to communicate his truths to the soul.  Learned, even holy people that lack this lack the foundation to touch the supernatural for all of their science, doctrine and holiness.

Then He showed me many religious people and, among them, priests - even of holy life.  But as good as they were, they lacked that spirit of simplicity in believing in the many graces and the many ways the Lord uses with souls.  Jesus said to me:  “I communicate Myself both to the humble and to the simple, because they immediately believe in my graces and take them into great consideration, though they may be ignorant and poor.  But with these others you see, I am very reluctant, because the first step which draws the soul near Me is belief; and it happens that these, with all of their science and doctrine, and even holiness, never come to experience a ray of celestial light – that is, they walk along the natural way, and they never arrive at touching, even slightly, that which is supernatural.  This is also the reason for which in the course of my mortal life there was not one learned, one priest, one man of power, among my followers, but all ignorant and of low condition – because these were more humble and simple, and also more disposed to make great sacrifices for Me.”
Vol. 2, May 19, 1899

Divine truth, by it's own nature, is infinite light, which is love.  It attracts love and causes an increase in love.  One truth is enough light to fill all of Heaven and earth.

Whence I did how much more I could to abandon all of myself in the Divine Will, and I thought of the so many truths that Blessed Jesus had manifested to me concerning his Holy Volition.  Every truth embraced the infinite and contained so much light as to fill Heaven and earth; and I felt the strength of the light and the weight of the infinite, that invading all of me with an indescribable love they invited me to love them and to make them mine with putting them into practice.
Vol. 29, February 13, 1931

Each truth revealed by God to the soul is a bond with God.  It is a divine property, which forms the Divine residence for God himself.  This can occur only in a soul where the Divine Will reigns.

Each truth revealed by God to man is a gift of priceless value, another bond that God makes with man.  It is a divine property endowed to the creature.  Only in one who lives in his Will can a creature contain the the full potential of these properties.  Each one carries with it a unique gift of God's distinct attributes which bind the creature more and more to God and God to her.
...do you want to know what are our most beautiful gifts that we make the creature?  To manifest to her a knowledge of our Supreme Being, a truth that pertains to us, one secret of ours is the most beautiful gift that we make her; each of these gifts is one more bond that we put between Her and us, our every truth is a property that we put in her soul.  Behold therefore that in the soul where our Will reigns we find our Divine foods, our property for how much it is possible for a creature, our residence, hence we find ourselves in our house, in our center, in the midst of our properties.  Do you see therefore what it means to make our Will reign and the great good to make you know our truths?  Our every knowledge carries, each one, its distinct gift, some carry his light, some fortitude, some goodness, some wisdom, some love and so on, each one of them binds the creature in a special way to God and God to her.
Vol. 29,  August 3, 1931

God wants to make a permanent residence with each of his creatures but He can only do this in a creature where his Will reigns, where the creature allows herself to be touched by his light.  So that the light of his truths fecundates, forms, purifies, and beautifies the creature.

“My daughter, one who lives in my Divine Will always has something to do with the light, never with the darkness; and since the light is fertile, it gives birth in the soul to the truths that It possesses.  The virtue of the light is marvelous and miraculous, and while with looking one doesn’t see other than light, inside it possesses the fullness of goods, but it doesn’t communicate these goods to one who only looks, but to one who lets herself be touched, molded, embraced, kissed with its ardent kisses, as it touches it purifies, as it molds it transforms, as it embraces thus it encloses its light in the soul and with its fecundity that doesn’t know how to ever be idle, its work is incessant, it communicates the beautiful rainbow of the colors and divine beauties, and with its kisses it infuses the most beautiful truths and the ineffable secrets of its Creator.  Living in the light of my Divine Will and not to be able to be light of the divine things, of our secrets, to not feel the fecundating virtue of this light, would be as if God might want to make life separate from his creature; instead it was this the unique purpose that we want that our Will be also that of the creature, because we want to make life together and permanent with her.  Hence it would be absurd to live in my Volition and to not feel the fecundity of his goods that this light possesses, that is that of making life of God (the) same (with) the creature.”
Vol. 29, July 23, 1931

Only Jesus is capable of guarding these truths which he does from within the creature.  These truths are the guarantee that God's Kingdom will come upon the earth and that it has already begun it's reign.

“My daughter, every word that I have said to you on my Divine Will has been none other than so many little visits that I have made you, leaving in you the substance of the good that every word of mine contains.  And not entrusting myself to you, because you were incapable of guarding one single word of mine, I left myself to guard the infinite value of my truths that I deposed in your soul.  Hence your fears are not just.  I am at watch over everything.  They are celestial truths, stuff of heaven, outlets of repressed love of my Will, and for so many centuries.  And before deciding to speak to you, already I have decided to remain in you in order to guard that which I deposed in you.  You enter into the secondary order, I am the first custodian.
“Now these little visits of mine being bearers of celestial stuff, you will bring them with you into the Celestial Country as triumph of my Will, and as guarantee that his kingdom will not only come upon the earth, but that he has established his beginning of his reign.  Those that will remain upon the paper will leave in perennial memory that my Will wants to reign in the midst of the human generations, and they will be spurs, incitements, divine supplications, irresistible force, celestial messengers, commanders of the Kingdom of my Divine Fiat; and also powerful reproach to one whom should occupy themselves to make such a good known; and that for laziness and for vain fears they won’t leave themselves to turn through all the world, so that they bring the cheerful news of the happy era of the Kingdom of my Will.  Therefore abandon yourself in me and leave me to do it.”
Vol. 30, January 24, 1932

All of the truths that God manifests to the creature are pledges that God makes in establishing his Kingdom.  The more the creature embraces these truths and turns in them the more pledges God makes to the creature.

“My Will is everything and in order to give himself to the creature he wants to be recognized, he wants to have (something) to do, wants to bargain over it with her; and how much more [the creature] visits him in his acts, so much more does [my Will] find himself pledged and arranged and he commences the disbursement of his capital.  All the truths, the knowledges that I have made you on the Divine Will have they not been perhaps capital that I have made to your soul?  And he is so very exuberant that he can fill the whole entire world with light, with love, with sanctity, with graces, with peace.  And has it not perhaps been after a turn that you have done in his acts, that I already await you with all love in order to give you his pledges and advances that his kingdom would come upon the  earth?  You gave your pledges, and my Fiat gave his to you.  One can say that every truth and word that he said in his regard were dispositions that he took as to form this kingdom, levy that he called in order to form his army, capital that he disbursed in order to maintain it, joys and delights in order to attract them, divine fortitude in order to conquer them; because first we do the deeds, we order everything, and then we demonstrate and we make known the deeds that we have done.
Vol. 30, January 12, 1932

In order to obtain more truths one must put into practice and act on the truths that one has received.  So that Heaven opens itself only over those who work, who are willing to to make a labor of love and make their walk always toward God.

...many times I am waiting for the conclusion of your acts in order to give you the surprise to make known to you other truths.  These like so many puffs of light and of heat perform by maturing in your soul the goods and truths that your Jesus has communicated to you.  Do you see therefore the necessity of your acts in order to dispose you to receive other knowledges on my Divine Fiat, it is in order to let me find in you the continuation of your acts in order to make them mature, otherwise what could I do?  I would remain as Sun that while it crosses over the earth, it doesn’t find either a flower to color or a fruit to mature, so that all the admirable effects that the Sun contains would remain in its light, the earth would receive nothing.  Therefore Heaven opens over working souls, the miraculous strength of the light of my Divine Volition, not over idle souls, but over those that labor, that sacrifice themselves, that love, that always hold something to do for me.
Vol. 29, September 16, 1931

With his truths becomes formed and maintained perfect order, and perennial peace.  The clear, beautiful sky of Heaven finds it echo in the creature and Divine Justice takes up it's rule which does not oppress but loves and calls forth love.

And my every single truth has the virtue to occupy an office in order to maintain the perfect order, (the) perennial peace; it will be the echo of Heaven, and [creatures] will swim within a sea of graces, of happiness, under a sun that doesn’t know clouds; the sky will be always serene.  My truths upon my Divine Will will be the only laws that will dominate; (for) creatures that will enter to live in this kingdom laws not of oppression but of love, that sweetly will make themselves loved, because in them [creatures] will find the strength, the harmony, the happiness, the abundance of all goods
Vol. 30, March 27, 1932

What seems complicated to us and seemingly impossible is most simple to God who is by nature simple.  The fruit of  justice and truth is simplicity which allows the creature to penetrate everywhere like God.

“The daughter of justice is truth.  Just as I am the eternal Truth, and I do not deceive, nor can I deceive, in the same way, the soul who possesses justice makes truth shine in all of her actions.  Therefore, since she knows by experience the true light of truth, if someone wants to deceive her, since that light which she feels within herself is missing, she immediately recognizes the deceit.  And so it happens that with this light of truth she deceives neither herself, nor her neighbor, nor can she be deceived.  The fruit produced by this justice and by this truth is simplicity, which is another quality of my Being – being simple; so much so, that I penetrate everywhere; there is nothing that can prevent Me from penetrating inside of it.  I penetrate into Heaven and into the abysses, into good and into evil; but my Being, which is most simple, by penetrating even into evil, does not get dirty; even more, it does not receive the slightest shadow.  In the same way, through justice and truth, gathering this beautiful fruit of simplicity within herself, the soul penetrates into Heaven, she enters into hearts to lead them to Me, she penetrates into everything that is good; and if she finds herself with sinners and sees the evil that they do, she does not get dirty because, being simple, she immediately brushes it off, without receiving any harm.  Simplicity is so beautiful, that my Heart is wounded at one gaze alone of a simple soul.  She is the admiration of angels and men.”
Vol. 2, August 10, 1899

And so the fulfillment of Psalm 85:10-11 is seen with the creature living in the Divine Will.  The Kingdom of God becomes formed within her and His truths spring up from within her earth, that is her body, and she takes on the likeness of God in his simplicity forming the reflection of Heaven so that God's Justice reigns in the full expression of his love.
